For those who have had children or have simply suffered the effects of time and gravity, sagging breasts may be a pain and an embarrassment. Fortunately, breast lift is an effective way to give an attractive and natural-looking lift to the breasts, creating a flattering contour to the body. Breast lift is often performed alone, but is commonly done in conjunction with breast augmentation. Tissues tend to relax to a more natural appearance over time from the tight early changes.
Common Questions & Considerations:
Is This Procedure for You?
The best candidates for breast lift are women who are healthy and generally happy with the size of their breasts but discontent with their aging appearance (sagginess, lack of firmness). It is not recommended for those who expect to have more children, as pregnancy and breastfeeding may negate the effects of the surgery. In addition, the procedure is best suited for women with small breasts, as larger, heavier breasts will become weighted down more quickly over time, even with a breast lift.
Initial Consultation
The most important part of your consultation will be determining the final breast size and shape, as well as the new height of the nipples. You and Dr. Moore will discuss expectations and goals, taking into consideration your overall body size and shape, your skin condition and your pre-operative breast size. You will also discuss your medical history and any allergies, medication or conditions you may have.

What to Expect
Pre-Operative
It is important that you do not smoke or take aspirin or certain other drugs before surgery. Dr. Moore will let you know a suitable time period in which to abstain from these substances. He may also recommend that you take a mammogram both before and after the procedure.
Do not eat or drink after midnight on the evening before surgery (unless directed to take medications by your Patient Coordinator). Please shower the morning of your procedure, but do not apply deodorant, creams, lotions, powders or oil to your skin. Please do not wear jewelry or makeup, and do not bring valuables with you to surgery.
Surgery will be performed at a hospital or on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. The surgery typically lasts less than four hours. An adult should escort you on the day of surgery and remain with you at home for the first 24 hours.
Day of Surgery
During the procedure, incisions will be made around and underneath the nipple, as well as along the natural crease of the breast, outlining the area that will be removed. The exact technique and location of incisions, however, will depend on each individual case. The excess skin is removed, the nipple is moved higher on the breast and the remaining skin is sewn together, pulling the breast tightly into place. Dr. Moore will then fit you with an elastic bandage to protect and support your breasts.
Post-Operative
Afterward, you may sleep and rest in any comfortable position. Rest quietly for 24 hours following surgery; when you get up, do so slowly, as you may feel dizzy or lightheaded.
Even though you will be up and about in a day or two, it is important that you limit your activity for optimal recovery. Expect to see some degree of temporary swelling, bruising and loss of sensation in your breasts. The wrap will be removed after a few days, at which time you may be asked to wear a support bra for several weeks. Make sure you do not take it off until notified by Dr. Moore. You may be able to return to work within a week, but avoid any heavy lifting, vigorous exercise or direct contact with the breasts for a few weeks, as this can stress the incisions and lead to complications such as delayed wound healing or prominent scars. You should also avoid sexual activity for a week or two.
Though the results of the breast lift may for last years, time and gravity will eventually affect the contour of the breasts again, and you may decide to go in for another procedure. Consult with Dr. Moore on what you can expect and what follow-up actions he recommends.
